We use our wiper blades and windshield washers more in the winter than any other time of the year. Just driving on Route 6 from Patterson to Mahopac, I often use my washers more than a few times. And this past winter was certainly no exception. With April showers right around the corner, here are a few safety tips you should know about your wiper blades.
If your windshield wipers blades leave streaks or smears, or if they scrape and clatter even when there is plenty of moisture on the glass, you could need new wiper blades.
When you take your car for a wash, give your wipers a little attention too. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth and make sure the wiper arm isn’t bent or broken. Look for any signs of metal corrosion or cracks, tears, or missing pieces on the squeegee’s edge. You can also give the wiper blade a little tug to make sure it’s still secure and not going to come loose on your next use.
A new set of wiper blades are inexpensive and should hug your windshield tightly; they’ll quickly remove rain. It’s always a good idea to check your wiper blades after a severe winter as ice and salt from the roads can eat into the blade. If you have a van, SUV, or hatchback, don’t forget to check on the rear window wiper blade too.
Check your wipers often, purchase a quality set of blades and refill your washer fluid too. Oh, by the way, it can be a real pain to install wiper blades on some cars. If you bought a set and had no idea how to install them, stop by, we will help. And of course, we sell wiper blades too.
