This has been one of the toughest winters on record. Just imagine how your car feels! Has your car seen some of these scenarios?
Scenario: You are driving during a snowstorm and your wheels are spinning out of control, but with no traction. You gave it a little more gas and suddenly your wheels catch.
Here’s the problem: With today’s cars using computers to control the transmission when your wheels are spinning out, the computer thinks the speed is rising and doesn’t realize the car isn’t really moving. When your wheels finally get some traction, the speed of the wheels suddenly drops causing a lot of stress on your transmission. This can cause internal damage to the transmission.
In addition, the uncontrolled spinning of the wheels overheats the transmission fluid; which breaks down the fluid’s ability to protect the transmission. Once the fluid has been overheated, it must be replaced with new fluid. Overheated transmission fluid can lead to premature transmission failure. If you experienced either of these scenarios, it’s best to have your transmission serviced.
Scenario: Baby, It’s been really cold outside
Here’s the problem: When temperatures drop outside the metal contracts, seals shrink and get hard and brittle. The other problem in the winter is all the salt that’s accumulated on the ground, that ends up under your car, which can damage transmission seals and other critical components. This condition can lead to seal failure and eventual leaks.
You have already driven through a number of snowstorms and slipping and sliding can overheat and damage your car’s transmission. Even All- Wheel Drive cars! Let us check it out; it’s a simple test…No charge!
