Team Jazz Wins 2023 Kia Skills Challenge in Front of Home Crowd

The crowd at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City was on their feet as Team Jazz triumphed in the 2023 Kia Skills Challenge on State Farm All-Star Saturday Night. Composed of Jordan Clarkson, Walker Kessler, and Collin Sexton, the hometown heroes showcased their talent and took down Team Rooks and Team Antetokounmpo in a thrilling display of team shooting.

In the final round, the Jazz clinched the victory with a three-pointer from rookie Kessler. The challenge required players to shoot from five different spots, with varying point values assigned to each spot. Team Antetokounmpo set the bar high with eight points, but the Jazz responded with a stellar performance.

The Kia Skills Challenge is a three-round competition where teams of three players accumulate “Challenge Points” in each round. The team with the highest total points claims the championship. However, tie-breaker rules are in place if needed.

In the first round, Team Rooks emerged victorious, defeating both Team Antetokounmpo and Team Jazz in an intense Team Relay. Jabari Smith Jr. and Paolo Banchero from Team Rooks got off to a strong start, but it was Jaden Ivey’s exceptional skills that secured the win for them.

The second round, Team Passing, saw Team Jazz dominate and outscore their opponents with 88 points. This round required teams to make passes of varying lengths and types within a time limit. Team Jazz showcased their exceptional passing abilities and secured another 100 challenge points.

It’s worth noting that Team Antetokounmpo faced a last-minute change to their roster as Giannis Antetokounmpo was unable to participate due to injury. His Milwaukee Bucks teammate, Jrue Holiday, filled in for him.

The NBA introduced the team-based format for the Kia Skills Challenge in 2022, and it proved to be a hit once again in 2023. The competition shifted from an individual-focused event to a more collaborative and exciting team affair.

Congratulations to Team Jazz on their remarkable victory, showcasing their skills in front of their home crowd. They truly proved that teamwork and precision can lead to success on the court.
