Around the NBA: James Harden Megatrade — The Basketball Movement

James Harden, the former NBA MVP, has been traded by the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets in a 4-team deal. Harden’s desire to leave the Rockets has been no secret, and despite efforts from the organization, tensions between Harden and the team were too high to maintain their relationship. The Brooklyn Nets were Harden’s preferred destination, but additional teams were considered as potential options. However, according to ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn remained the most feasible choices before the trade was finalized.

In the megadeal involving four teams, James Harden was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. As part of the deal, Caris LeVert was sent to the Indiana Pacers, while Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince joined the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Houston Rockets acquired Victor Oladipo from the Pacers, Dante Exum from the Cavs, Rodions Kurucs from the Nets, and multiple first-round draft picks from Brooklyn. The Rockets also received a first-round pick from the Cavaliers and sent a second-round pick to the Pacers.

The implications of this trade are significant. With Oladipo and LeVert in their new teams, the Rockets have the potential to remain competitive in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets now have a super team with James Harden joining Kevin Durant. The addition of Harden brings uncertainty, as it remains to be seen how the trio of Harden, Durant, and possibly Kyrie Irving will mesh on the court. This trade instantly catapults the Nets as one of the top teams to watch in the NBA, challenging the reigning champions, the LA Lakers.
