Michael Malone, the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, has been selected to coach Team LeBron in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. This opportunity will not only allow Malone to coach some of the league’s best players, but also potentially coach against his own player, Nikola Jokic. The All-Star Game will take place on February 19 in Salt Lake City.
As the Denver Nuggets secure their spot in the Western Conference, Malone and his coaching staff have earned the honor of leading Team LeBron. This team will be drafted by none other than LeBron James himself. On the other side, Boston interim coach Joe Mazzulla will coach Team Giannis, which will be drafted by Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

The All-Star coaches are determined based on the teams with the best records in each conference two weeks before the game. With Denver holding the top spot in the Western Conference, Malone and his staff have secured their place in the All-Star Game.
“I say it every year and I told our players this. There’s some teams that are dying for the All-Star break and can’t wait to go to Cancun,” said Malone. “No, we are keeping our eyes on the prize and we have to make sure we play all the way to the break.”

While Jokic, the Nuggets’ center and two-time reigning Kia MVP, will be starting in the game, it remains to be seen if Malone will have the opportunity to coach him. The drafting process conducted by James and Antetokounmpo will determine which coach Jokic will play alongside.
This will be Malone’s second time coaching the All-Star Game, with his previous experience coming in 2019 when he coached Team LeBron to a 178-164 victory over Team Giannis. He joins an exclusive group of Nuggets coaches who have had the honor of coaching in the All-Star Game, including Larry Brown in 1977 and George Karl in 2010.
