NBA announces 2021-22 Kia All-Defensive 1st and 2nd Teams

The NBA has revealed the 2021-22 Kia NBA All-Defensive 1st and 2nd Teams, showcasing the top defensive players in the league. Let’s take a closer look at the players who made the cut.

Kia All-Defensive 1st Team

Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics and Mikal Bridges of the Phoenix Suns headline the Kia NBA All-Defensive 1st Team. Smart, the 2021-22 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, continues to impress with his defensive prowess. Bridges, who finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting, earns his first selection to the All-Defensive Team.

Joining Smart and Bridges are Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. Gobert, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, secures his sixth consecutive selection to the All-Defensive 1st Team. Antetokounmpo, a former MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, makes the team for the fourth straight season. Jackson, the leader in blocks per game this season, earns his debut on the team.

Kia All-Defensive 2nd Team

The Kia NBA All-Defensive 2nd Team features Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat, Jrue Holiday of the Milwaukee Bucks, Matisse Thybulle of the Philadelphia 76ers, Robert Williams III of the Boston Celtics, and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. Adebayo and Holiday have previously been selected for the team, while Thybulle and Williams make their debut. Green, a former Defensive Player of the Year, earns his seventh selection to the All-Defensive Team.

This selection is determined by a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. Each voter chooses two guards, two forwards, and one center for each team. The players with the most votes at their respective positions earn a spot on the team. The full voting results can be found below.
