What to Make of Carmelo Anthony: The Basketball Movement

The NBA season has already seen its fair share of captivating storylines. From the Jimmy Butler drama, LeBron leaving Cleveland (again), and the Kawhi Leonard/DeMar DeRozan trade, to Joel Embiid’s Twitter antics, the world’s best basketball league has not lacked entertainment. Amidst all this, we find ourselves wondering, what is going on with Carmelo Anthony?

After leaving the New York Knicks, Anthony spent last season with the OKC Thunder but struggled to find his role. Despite the potential for instant offense off the bench, he resisted accepting a lesser role alongside Paul George and Russell Westbrook. Seeking a change, Anthony then joined the Houston Rockets this season, embracing the bench. However, things have not gone as expected for both Anthony and the Rockets.

In just 10 games, Anthony averaged 13 points and 5 rebounds off the bench, shooting 40 percent from the field. The Rockets, off to a slower start than anticipated, decided to part ways with him. Now, the future looks uncertain for the aging star. Will other teams see a fit for him? Has his game aged well? These questions linger as we examine Anthony’s potential next steps.

One thing is clear: Anthony can still shoot. While his percentages may not always reflect it, he remains a capable scorer. However, his defensive skills have never been strong and may have worsened over time. As the league focuses on younger talent and the dominance of teams like the Warriors, Anthony’s skill set may no longer be in high demand.

Moving forward, Carmelo Anthony may consider following in the footsteps of Stephon Marbury and heading to China, where he could continue to excel and earn a substantial income. Regardless of what path he chooses, one thing is certain: we will continue to closely follow Anthony’s career. After all, his unstoppable scoring throughout his long tenure in the league may very well secure him a place in the Hall of Fame.
