Devin Booker Named Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award Winner

The NBA has announced that Devin Booker, the Phoenix Suns guard, is the recipient of the prestigious 2020-21 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente. This award recognizes Booker’s exceptional contributions to the greater Phoenix community over the past several months.

Booker has demonstrated his commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of local youth and families through his Devin Booker Starting Five Initiative. He has donated $500,000 to five different Arizona community groups, with a total commitment of $2.5 million over five years. These funds will support critical funding needs and efforts to improve the lives of the community.

The first class of organizations includes Special Olympics Arizona, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center, UMOM New Day Centers, and Ability 360. The second class consists of Arizona Autism United, Central Arizona Shelter Services, YMCA of Southern Arizona, GAP Ministries, and Elevate Phoenix.

In addition to his financial contributions, Booker has also actively participated in various community initiatives. He has provided support for COVID-19 relief, organized holiday shopping sprees, served as a guest coach for wheelchair and youth basketball programs, and made regular visits to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, Booker was named a Special Olympics Global Ambassador in 2020, advocating for inclusion through sports.

To honor Booker’s achievement, the Suns and the NBA will recognize him before Game 2 of the NBA Finals 2021 on Thursday, July 8th. As part of the award, the Devin Booker Starting Five Initiative will receive a $25,000 contribution from the NBA and Kaiser Permanente.

The NBA Cares Community Assist Award is a monthly recognition that celebrates players who positively impact their communities.
